About Izabella Hearn

Izabella Hearn has over 30 years’ experience in TEFL, [Teaching English as a Foreign Language] starting at International House, London and moving on to Central America and Spain.  From 1985 until 2000 she taught at King’s College, a prestigious British school in Madrid.  For the past 20 years Izabella has been involved in teacher training and has given workshops and participated in conferences throughout Europe, the United States and Latin America. Izabella served on the Executive Board of TESOL Spain for six years and was also a member of the ESL/Mother Tongue Committee of the Council of International Schools.  She is an NLP practitioner, and has developed creative techniques in the classroom based on her research in this area.

Izabella has written a large number of primary EFL textbooks, including Fun English, (Pearson 2002), English Adventure (Pearson 2004), and Didactica del Ingles, [a methodology book for trainee teachers] with Antonio Garces (Pearson Prentice Hall 2003), Discover English (Pearson 2008), Comet (SM – University of Dayton 2012), Oxford International English (Oxford University Press 2013).  Izabella is also author of a variety of readers published by Penguin including: The Galapagos (Penguin Pearson 2010), African Safari (Penguin Pearson 2012), Sharks (Penguin Pearson 2014).

From 2007 until 2009 Izabella worked on the development of Primary material for Uganda, East Africa. She spends a great deal of time in both Uganda and Kenya where she works with children helping them to achieve their learning potential.
Izabella is involved in teaching a Master’s Programme at the International University of Menendez Pelayo where she specializes in exploring communication strategies and the development of intercultural competences. Izabella is also teacher trainer for the Cervantes Institute and in that capacity has given talks and workshops in Hamburg, Cairo, New York as well Spain.
